PRE-ORDER NOW, RELEASING 8TH DECEMBER

Back in the annus mirabilis of 2018, when vineyard yields across Europe were through the roof, the harvest at Burge's Field came to an end and, despite having loaded up all our grape supply contracts to the hilt, there were still 10 tonnes of beautiful clean Chardonnay on the vines. Now there are few things with as short a shelf-life as ripe grapes on a vine so Zam rang every winery in England trying to sell them but everyone was full to bursting... apart from Hambledon a few miles away in the Meon Valley - they were taking delivery of two milk tankers from Holland the next week.

A swap deal was quickly arrived at and, a full two weeks after the end of the main harvest, we delivered all ten tonnes to the winery and in return would recieve a proportion back as finished wine whenever it was ready - and now it is... Rather sooner than you would imagine for a chardonnay-only blend, after just 5 years and two months on the lees, it is ready and raring to go - a little bottled memento of that astonishing year when quality and quantity coincided!

It is what the French would call a blanc de blanc - a white wine made from white grapes so we've called it WHITE FROM WHITE 2018.

Tasting Notes

Golden yellow in colour, the nose is luxuriously rich and toasty with aromas of baked orchard and citrus fruits, reminiscient of caramelised tarte tatin. The ripe chardonnay from the endless summer of 2018 blends seamlessly with autolytic pastry notes formed over 5 years of lees ageing in bottle. On the palette, the wine is full of ripe citrus fruit with a backbone of crisp, mineral acidity holding everything together. A slight salinity and pithiness in the mouth makes this wine perfect for enjoying with seafood such as oysters or even good old fish and chips. Drink from now or leave under cork for the next couple of years and let the wine become even toastier and more opulent.
